Industrial Electrical Surplus &
Excess Inventory

Edmundson Industrial works both sides of the surplus market. We source NOS, excess, and surplus electrical components for buyers whose standard distribution channels come up short. We also evaluate surplus lots from facilities going through shutdowns, upgrades, or overstock reductions.

What This Page Covers

  • Buying surplus electrical components from us
  • Selling surplus lots, take-outs, and shutdown inventory to us
  • NOS, surplus, take-out, and reconditioned: what each means
  • Categories we handle most frequently
  • Condition disclosure policy: disclosed before purchase

Buying Surplus and Selling Surplus

This page operates differently from a standard product page. There are two distinct transactions here, and we handle both.

Buying from Us

We Supply Surplus to You

When current-production channels can't deliver what you need, because the part is discontinued, has an unacceptable lead time, or no longer exists in an active catalog, Edmundson Industrial checks surplus channels on your behalf.

This includes new-old-stock found in warehoused distributor inventory, plant surplus from facilities that bought a part and never used it, and take-out equipment removed from operating machinery and now available for resale.

  • Discontinued parts that distributors no longer stock
  • Long-lead items available faster through surplus channels
  • Exact catalog number matches for legacy equipment
  • Condition and source disclosed clearly on every quote

Selling to Us

We Buy Surplus from You

Facilities going through a plant shutdown, a major equipment upgrade, or a line changeover often have electrical components they no longer need. Rather than scrapping usable equipment, contact us. We evaluate surplus lots and respond with whether we have interest and a rough offer range.

We do not buy everything, and we will tell you directly if a lot doesn't work for us. For lots we are interested in, we respond promptly with an evaluation and a preliminary offer.

  • Plant shutdowns with multiple panels or assemblies
  • Upgrade take-outs: replaced MCCs, switchgear, or drives
  • Excess inventory: purchased, never installed
  • Single items or full lots evaluated
Describe Your Surplus Lot

Categories We Source Through Surplus Channels

These are the categories where surplus sourcing is most frequently useful. Standard distribution has limited or no access to discontinued part numbers in these categories.

Circuit Breakers

Surplus & NOS Circuit Breakers

New-in-box and surplus molded case circuit breakers, including discontinued frames and current-production overstock. Common requests include Westinghouse, ITE, Federal Pacific, and discontinued Eaton/Square D frames no longer in active production. Condition disclosed per unit.

MCC Components

Motor Control Center Parts

Surplus MCC buckets, combination starter units, feeder tap units, and bus sections. Useful when a facility needs to add units to an existing MCC lineup using a series that the manufacturer has changed or discontinued. We source to match the existing hardware where possible.

Contactors & Starters

Contactors, Starters, Overloads

NOS and surplus NEMA and IEC contactors, motor starters, and overload relay units from discontinued series. Take-out contractor assemblies from equipment upgrades are also evaluated. Coil voltages, auxiliary contacts, and overload rating disclosed on quote.

Drives

VFDs & Drive Take-Outs

Take-out variable frequency drives and DC drives removed from operating equipment during upgrades. These units vary considerably in condition. Each is described individually: age, hours of operation if known, and any visible condition issues. Not quoted as "used" without further detail.

Transformers

NOS Dry-Type Transformers

New-old-stock dry-type distribution transformers in kVA ratings that are either on extended lead time through current production or have been discontinued. Condition reflects warehouse age, not installation. Nameplate data confirmed and disclosed with quote.

Switchgear Parts

Switchgear Components & Parts

Surplus switchgear compartment hardware, bus sections, draw-out breaker units, and related components for legacy lineups. These are the parts most often needed when maintaining equipment that can no longer be sourced through any standard channel.

What We Mean When We Say NOS, Surplus, Take-Out, or Reconditioned

Condition terms in the surplus market are used loosely. We use them with specific definitions, and we apply them consistently. Every quote states the condition clearly before you purchase. We do not describe a take-out as surplus or NOS. If there is any ambiguity, we say so.

NOS — New-Old-Stock

Original Packaging, Never Installed

The unit has never been installed or operated. It may still be in original manufacturer packaging with original documentation. However, NOS is not the same as current production. The unit may be aged, which can affect certain components (capacitors, seals, lubricants) depending on the product type and storage conditions. We disclose the age and storage environment where known.

Surplus

Purchased, Never Used

Purchased and at some point moved out of original packaging or removed from a storeroom, but never installed. Surplus units have not been operated. Condition can range from effectively NOS to units showing shelf wear or minor handling marks. We describe what we see. "Surplus" without further qualification in our quotes means no sign of installation or operation.

Take-Out

Removed from Operating Equipment

The unit was installed and in service. It has been removed, typically during an upgrade, expansion, or replacement project. Take-out condition varies substantially. We describe each unit individually: visible condition, signs of wear, anything on the nameplate that indicates service history. A take-out is not quoted as surplus or NOS under any circumstances.

Reconditioned

Cleaned, Inspected, and Tested

The unit has been cleaned, disassembled as appropriate, inspected for wear or damage, had worn parts replaced, and been functionally tested by a qualified shop. Reconditioned is not new, and we do not present it as equivalent to new. A reconditioned unit has documented test results. We identify the shop and the tests performed when available.

Our policy on condition disclosure: Condition is stated in the quote, before the purchase order. A take-out will be called a take-out. If a unit has cosmetic damage, we describe it. If we are uncertain about the history of a unit, we say "history unknown" rather than assigning a favorable condition label. If that level of detail matters for your application, we encourage you to ask questions before ordering.

Have Surplus Equipment to Move?

If your facility has surplus electrical inventory, take-out equipment from an upgrade, or a plant shutdown with multiple panels, drives, or assemblies to dispose of, send us a description. We evaluate lots and get back to you with whether we are interested and a rough offer range.

We respond to most surplus lot inquiries within a few business days. We do not purchase everything, and we will tell you directly if a lot doesn't fit what we can move. For lots we are interested in, we move forward with a more detailed evaluation and a written offer.

There is no obligation to sell once you send a description. We're just looking at what you have.

  • Plant shutdowns: full electrical rooms, panel boards, switchgear
  • MCC upgrade take-outs: full sections or individual buckets
  • Drive replacement projects: VFDs, soft starters, DC drives
  • Excess purchased inventory: NOS parts sitting in storerooms
  • Transformer replacements: old dry-type units in working condition
  • General industrial electrical overstock: breakers, contactors, starters

What to Include When You Contact Us

A brief description of the lot helps us evaluate quickly and respond with a useful answer.

  • Equipment type (breakers, MCC, drives, etc.)
  • Manufacturer and model numbers if available
  • Approximate quantity and ampere ratings
  • Condition: installed and operating, upgrade take-out, or never installed
  • Photos, if you have them (nameplates especially useful)
  • Your location (pickup vs. shipping affects logistics)
